Play as Princess Zelda In ALTTP...

Over the past few weeks I've been working on a mod for ALTTP, which as the title would describe, you play as Zelda instead of Link. Now I'm not one to come into a new forum without baring gifts, so here are the spoils...

Now this mod isn't entirely finished, just her sprites although I may end up tinkering with shading on her dress and cape. I'd like to mod a little further into it such as in-game text and swapping her stock sprites with someone else. I don't really want to stray too far from the original game because I'd like to save that for another mod.

For my actual mod I'm going to do something similar to the CD-i games, except this time make two good games, LOL! I was thinking somewhere along the lines of Zelda's quest be more puzzle oriented and Link's quest be more hack n' slash style. I digress though, I probably won't go as far as to do those mods. Anyway, I just wanted to share what I've made with the community, let me know what ya'll think. Constructive criticism is welcome. Enjoy!

*Edit: I'm actually working on this mod now. So far I've got most of the information and tools I need, however a few things still elude me. Like how to edit other sprites in game rather than just Links. If anyone knows how to do this in Hyrule Magic or Black Magic, or any other program for that matter, please fill me in. Many thanks in advanced.

If I remember right, that setting should be somewhere in "Global Permissions", then "Users Permissions" in the ACP. This is the latest version of phpBB right?

As for the completed mod I'm working on right now, I'm moving around heart container locations. Yes, I said it, heart container, I want to do something similar to the original Zelda where there's no foolin' around with heart pieces, just a good ole fashioned easter egg hunt, except with Heart Containers. I plan to hide them fairly well, but not too well of coarse. Also, I hope to add bosses for some of the heart containers, but we'll see.

Some palette changes, I'm considering changing Zelda's hair color to blonde, not sure though. Blonde hair on her sorta makes her crown/tiara hard to see.

I modded the "Secret Room".......naturally, LOL.

Let's see what else?.....I'd like to add mini bosses for each item/weapon you get, or at the very least heavily guard them with enemies.

Make use of some of the extra spaces in dungeons/palaces that aren't being used. (Much like I did with the "Secret Room")

I'm modding it to where you get the armor/tunic's earlier in the game. I always thought that the placing of each of these was horrible. In the stock game you get them much too late, plus with the relocating of the heart pieces/containers, you'll need 'em earlier on.

That should just about do it for Zelda's mod, now for Link's, the same on everything except more enemies and the swapping of weaker enemies.

OH!, and I made the shovel a bit more.....useful.

I've tried using that program, but it crashes right on start up for me.

I believe I've even tried Windows XP mode, (not just the "run compatibility mode", but the actual XP emulator from Microsoft too ), and I'm pretty sure it's the latest version.

...Now I'm second guessing myself, I THINK it's the latest version, it says "Last modified: 10/23/2000 6:52 PM"

Unfortunately my Toshiba Hard Drive just bit the dust on me last week, so all of the work I have done is locked away on the disk in the HDD shell. Fortunately, I now have a new WD Scorpio Blue HDD and I was smart enough to upload my work as a png image onto Tinypic, so I won't have much to redo, *whew.

Wow that would have been bad... I remember something like that happened to me when I was working on a hack..... Only I didn't get mine back.....

yeah, I got pretty lucky on this one. Just about the only thing that sucks is that I went from a 640 gb hdd to a 320 gb hdd. Same speeds, but all of my movies are gone. I suppose I could just put 'em on the new drive, but I've spent enough time getting everything back to the way I had it. Firefox theme, Stylish mods, Custom Win7 Theme/Shells, emulators, etc.

I usually keep all of my important things in a dropbox folder so If my computer does crash I can just download dropbox on another computer and all my files will be there. I also don't need to upload files anywhere, I can just share them from my dropbox.

That's pretty smart. I'm just gonna get a portable hard drive and be done with it...at least until that crashes too, LOL.

'tis been a while since I've made my way to these parts. Sorry to disappoint on the mod, but there's just too many things going on right now for me to work on this mod. Ever since my hard drive crashed, I've been wrapped up in work and my forums, paying bills, life. I don't believe I've said this here yet, but feel free to use Zelda's sprites in any mods you guys make. I've seen some of the progress on The Legend Of Zelda - Renascence Of Evil, I think that would be pretty friggin' cool to see her as a playable character in that game. Diggin' the graveyard btw.

*EDIT: OMG! I just got a crazy idea while looking at the Renascence Of Evil project! Would it be possible to do a sort of co-op thing like in Donkey Kong Country where you can swap Donkey Kong and Diddy Kong in mid-game? It shouldn't be too difficult in theory right? All you would need to do is check out the source code for that function and apply it to LTTP's code. Then you could REALLY make a mod that'll stand out above the rest. Zelda can use more magic spells and solve certain puzzles that Link can't, while Link can defeat certain enemies with the Master Sword and do things that Zelda can't. Hmmm, should I post this on The Legend Of Zelda - Renascence Of Evil's topic?
